The voice is the muscle of the soul.”

-Alfred Wolfsohn

Created through Alli Caw, Sacred Voice Liberation is an animist, somatic, and play-based approach devoted to the reclamation of the living voice as the muscle of the soul.

A living body of work, SVL is a mashup of Alli’s training in the performing arts, expressive transmutation, nervous system regulation, somatic coaching, Body Temple Dance, inner parts + shadow work, womb healing, voice alchemy and expressive channeling, meditation and ritual theater.

Devoted to dismantling oppressive systems from the inside out, SVL incites radical permission to uplift the deep feeling and dynamically expressive nature of being human as sacred, transformational and revolutionary.

SVL sits on the altar of our embodied love, right relationship, and collective liberation.

There’s a chrysalis in your throat.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Channeled by Alli Starlight Caw

We honor the voice as the muscle of the soul, a living being with its own will, intelligence, and desires.

We are not trying to control the voice into sounding a certain way. We are nurturing a new relationship of stewardship and intimacy between you and your living voice. We are expanding our capacity to surrender and allow the living voice to sing us.

Curiosity over judgment.

We are taking off our hats of judgement and putting on our curiosity capes. Whatever we notice about our voice and our expression is just more information about ourselves. We cultivate self-compassion as we unlearn our conditioning around what the voice should and shouldn’t sound like and dare to reclaim our unique expression.

Without the body, there is no voice.

We bring the voice back home to the temple of our body, delighting in the somatic experience of our vibrations, receiving them as a cellular massage and honoring song as a living language of the body.

Your voice is for you.

We are unraveling the conditioning that the voice is something we only give to others by remembering to receive our own vibrations and singing for no one’s pleasure but our own.

Our work is play.

Play for play’s sake is our birthright and our greatest liberator. It rewires neural pathways of radical permission and delightfully expands our expressive possibilities. It gifts us the courage and curiosity tosound and sing the darker parts within us waiting to be heard.

This is not a “pleasing + pretty sounds only” space.

We’re embracing all sounds equally. We are breaking free from the binary of there being a good or bad, right, or wrong way to sound and sing. We are freeing ourselves from the gendered limitations of male and female sounds and resurrecting the wild range of the human voice.

Every sound is a form of singing.

We’re expanding the definition of singing to include all voiced sounds. Crying is a form of singing. Moaning is a form of singing. Cracked, broken, and wailing sounds are a song of their own and vitally important aspects of our humanity.

Voiced sounds are an embodiment of our inner parts and our connection to the subconscious.

Every part of us lives in the voice. Our shadow, light, insecurities, and power. We welcome home every sound as the unsung parts within who are ready to be healed and integrated through being expressed and heard.

The voice is our emotional support ally and an alchemist.

We allow the voice to support us in being with, moving through and transmuting our most intense emotional experiences. We’re expanding our capacity to feel and express the wide width of our human aliveness through movement and sound, one tolerable and playful step at a time.

Becoming a wide open channel.

As we relinquish the old ways of dictating the voice and learn to surrender to the voice’s impulses, we become an open channel through which our soul and any other energies, entities or divine forces can freely and fully express, communicate, heal and transmute.

Sacred Voice Liberation is decolonial work.

We are upending the systems of oppression that taught us to relate to our voice and our Self through domination, shame and control by nurturing a new relationship of stewardship with the living voice and our inner parts. In doing so we begin to birth a new world of embodied love by becoming it. The inner work we do here sits on the altar of our collective liberation.
