Meet Your Guide
Hi love, I’m Alli Starlight Caw: voice doula, singing shadow worker, song oracle and playful permission giver.
I was a professional performer and singer when I fell out of love with singing. I realized my voice had become nothing more than a commodity used to please and impress other people. It rubbed salt in my people pleasing wounds and I decided I was done singing.
But the longing to sing ensued. I kept searching for vocal work that spoke to my voice’s innate connection to my soul and psyche. I found the Primitive Voice work of Jean-Rene Toussaint and the Roy Hart vocal approach while earning my MFA at Naropa University.
It sparked my spiritual awakening and launched me into a 14+ year journey of unlearning decades of vocal training.
Years of unraveling all the technique I’d learned to control and contort my voice into fitting the aesthetic standards of the music and theater industries .
Countless ceremonies to awaken the wild, visceral and ugly sounds intrinsically connected to the inner parts I had been conditioned to silence, fear and exile.
My pretty and palatable voice cracked open into its wild beautiful wholeness. I could channel songs in ways I never could before. I could sing greater heights and depths that used to elude me.
All because I learned to surrender to my voice so that it could sing me. All because I invited my voice to sing ALL PARTS of holy human wholeness.
The systems of power cut off parts of our voice and our being to be more pleasing and palatable, robbing us of our full expressive power.
I’m here for the devotional singers ready to unravel the oppressive systems from the inside out by reclaiming the full feral width of their vocal range.
The vocal alchemists here to anchor the frequencies of collective liberation through freeing their own voice and sonically serving it.
